In the eyes of a Atheist

Someone had suggested to read Richard Dawkins book entitled "The God Delusion". I was finally able to snag it at the library.

I also was able to acquire the video "The God who wasn't there" by the same Dawkins.
I understand he also had a couple of documentaries called "The root of all evil". I haven't seen those yet, but intend to view them as well.

Why would I read and view some information from the viewpoint of an Atheist? I am glad you asked.

When I converse with someone, I like to have a better understanding of that person's worldview. For me, it makes it easier to communicate when I understand the persons background and worldview.

Note I said converse and not debate. Over the years, I simply have found debates to be unproductive.

So I am reading why this, once christian boy, now has the worldview of a naturalist.

Yes. I have to say,I only begun on the book. However, the videos are interesting. I already watched "The God who wasn't there." I am in the process of watching the first of 2 documentaries he did entitled the root of evil.

So far, he doesn't provide any support on his view of naturalism, rather conveys it as fact. That is disapointing to me. I was hoping he would provide some facts or basis for his belief, rather he seems to be simply downing the teaching of religion in whole. (I notice primarily christian religion).
I will try to provide a more detail review later.

Wow, I'm surprised you're reading Dawkins... I commend you.

The thing is, Dawkins is a pretty brash figure. He really sees the world in terms of black-and-white -- a big dogmatic, if you will -- and some might argue he's just as controversial as the people he's trying to combat.

You're jumping into the deep end here... even I'm a little shocked at the stuff he says from time to time in interviews. To turn things around, imagine me going to the creationism "museum" which just opened up in Kentucky -- do you think I'd approach it with the most open mind possible? Probably not.

Keep these ideas in mind as you read The God Delusion. He's brash, but he makes some good points.

(The difference between what he says and what the other side says is that you can actually scientifically check out the things he says, and the other side only has one very flowery, oft-contradictory and metaphorical book. There is no "faith" required with science; it's all right there, out in the open, and you can test it for yourself. Maybe that's why I like it so much.)

I am reading it, as I said. I have just finished viewing one of two documentaries entitled "The Root of Evil".

I have to say, he stands his ground on his worldview. Seems he views all religion as a disease and totally detests indcoctrination of any faith.

However, so far, he seems to favor dissing christiananity and judaism.

Hey JTL, if I can read Dawkins, perhaps you can make it to the creation museum. LOL
